James was instrumental in securing sponsorship for an expedition to the North Pole across the Arctic Ocean and soon after sponsorship was confirmed by O2, he was in the Arctic landscape photographing the expedition preparations around Resolute Bay, Eureka, Ward Hunt Island and on the Arctic Ocean.

A selection of photographs from the expedition were exhibited at the Getty Images Gallery, London and met with critical acclaim in the national press.
